What’s Your Motivation


Let me tell you a funny story.  A little over a year ago on my birthday, my wonderful wife gave me this really nice, oak finished shoeshine box for a gift.  It just so happened that a month prior to that I had quit my corporate job and scheduled myself to attend an upcoming 3 Day Foreclosures Lab.

Although the shoebox was very nice (and I do like to shine my own shoes) I thought it was an odd gift. So I asked my wife “what’s the deal with the shoebox?” Probably not the best question to ask at the time.  Nevertheless, she explained it very well…

“Daryl, I support you 100% in your pursuit of this new foreclosure business. However if it doesn’t work out… you are still going to support this family one way or another. Renee”

So, facing the option of shining shoes for a living or becoming a successful foreclosure investor, I became VERY motivated to make this business work before I even came to the Lab.

So what’s your motivation?

Each of you chose the path of a foreclosure investor for one reason or another.  So what was yours?  Money? More time with your family? To be your own boss? Or some other reason?

Regardless of your reason, you have chosen to make a significant and positive change in your life and the lives of others.  Whether you have scheduled yourself for an upcoming Lab or have completed theLab – you have made a huge commitment both with your time and money and now you have only two options left – success or failure.

Let’s talk about failure first.

Foreclosure investing is NOT an easy business. Anyone who tells you “there is easy money to be made” (like the late night Guru’s tell you) has either never tried foreclosure investing themselves, or they are just not being honest with you.

To succeed in foreclosure investing you need a full commitment to discipline your time and must be persistent.  You are going to have to challenge yourself daily. You will need to stay focused and step out of your comfort zone.  You will need to make hundreds of phone calls and talk to people who may or may not want to talk to you.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget the door knocking.  If you don’t do all these things often and really well – you will not be successful.

Now let’s talk about success.

First you must decide that failure is not an option. And then ask yourself “what is my motivation”? The shoebox story was more of a joke because my lovely wife knows that the only shoes I’ll ever shine will be my own.  However, the reality for me was feast or famine.  As I’ve mentioned before – I quit my job BEFORE investing in myself to go to Lab.

In doing so (just like Tim and Alexis did when they started ForeclosureS.com, I removed my safety net.  Therefore my motivation to succeed was huge.

Yes – quitting your job is a major risk – but so is getting in your car everyday and braving the traffic (especially in LA) just to get to work.  What’s even a greater risk is putting your financial future in the hands of someone else – like your boss.  Your job is not a guarantee that you and your family will be financially secure.  There are far too many things that can affect your job security.

But what if you worked for yourself?  I happen to think that I am the best boss I ever had.  Why?  I’m always looking out for the best interest of myself and my family. I give myself a great salary, excellent benefits, and a very, very flexible work and vacation schedule. And I don’t have to call in sick whenever I don’t feel like working.

So let’s review the choices here:

You either have more money and more time with your family and friends (and more vacations) – OR – You do what is important to fulfill your boss’s priorities.

And let’s not forget the benefit of having the satisfaction of knowing that you are making the world a better place with the service you provide.  And as a ForeclosureS.com Coach I’m ready to help you over the first bumps in the road as you start out on your new path in life.
